at home they baked apple pie.
he peeled and sliced the apples.
she worked on the crust.
side by side they worked, but
they didn’t much talk.
as i said, he did the apples.
she was the crust.
pretty soon the pie was assembled.
it went in the oven.
they both checked the time.
turns were taken to monitor its progress.
once done they took turns tasting the pie’s
bubbled out boiling filling.
he dished out big slices for each and scooped out
vanilla ice cream.
they ate in silence.
something had not been resolved.
but the pie was done.
they’d made it.
