some damn way about it

walk past the chain-link fence.
walk past the crusty snow.
walk past the light pole.
walk past the stop sign.
walk past the flattened can.
walk past the discarded carmex on the sidewalk.
walk past the car warming in their driveway.
walk past the house where chevy chase is on tv inside.
walk past the garden made of rocks.
walk past the lake where the lights sparkle on top.
walk past the naked barbie with hair frozen to the ground.
walk past the asian restaurant where the busboy is taking trash outside.
walk past the house with santa hanging from the gutter.
walk past the cardboard-brown and dead flowers still standing.
walk past the slender lamppost shadow across the path.
walk past the christmas tree almost 60 feet tall.
walk past the drunks falling into their taxi.
walk past the sign saying little sisters of the homeless.
walk past the gas station with the air-pump churning.
walk past the two dudes talking about brunch with their girls.
walk past the mexican place with a white clientele.
walk past the breath you just breathed.
walk past the making of judgments.
walk past the knowing of anything.
walk past the absurdity of prediction.
walk past any notions of self.
put one foot past the other.
then again.
walk quiet into the universe.
because.
