about ‘merkwords’

dear reader,

this is a website.

this is jonathan merkel’s website.

i am 28 and i have lived what i believe to be a normal life in america. however i often can’t reconcile the lunacy of ‘normal.’

how can it be so bland, but so colorful?

‘normal’ is the place where eggshells litter the floors, but starving people can’t get a handout. ‘normal’ is the place where technology exceeds our imaginations every second, but our best ethical arguments are a thousand years old. ‘normal’ is religions preaching love, but practicing hate. ‘normal’ is a place where peace is always one war away.

this site is my reaction. it is my graffiti on their bank’s walls. it is my theses nailed to the door of their church. it is my sit-down at their lunch counter. it is my song against their yells. it is my fart in their general direction.

and so i write here. i write to think, dream and search. i write for fun. i write to visit places beyond ‘normal.’ to explore ‘normal’ from a canted perspective. and finally, i write hoping to reshape reality while attempting to build a better one. even if it only exists on this white page.

i hope you enjoy my work. and thanks for reading.

yours everyday,
jonathan merkel

  1. Hey John,
So I know I follow you’re blog, but I don’t get instant emails and I would like to but for the life of me I can’t find you in the list of blogs I follow so that I can change the setting. Is your blog called merkwords? Or is it something more mysterious? Also, are you tagging your posts with more than just the one category? I can’t tell, but you should be in order to make them appear in more readers that people scroll through. Just a thought.

    Pete
